I write, source and review every guide published on KpopDirect, an independent English-language publication covering Korean skincare, K-beauty ingredients, and K-pop beauty culture. I live in South Korea and run the site alone — the research, the writing, the corrections, all of it.
Why I started this
Most English-language K-beauty coverage works from press releases, export listings, and other English-language articles. What kept striking me was that the Korean-language version of the same product often told a slightly different story: a different ingredient order, a claim that is regulated here but not there, a reformulation that was never announced in English at all.
That gap is the reason this site exists. KpopDirect is not a general beauty blog. It is an attempt to bring one specific kind of information — Korean primary source material — to readers who cannot reach it directly.
What I can actually check
I read Korean brand documentation, full Korean ingredient lists, and MFDS functional-cosmetics notifications in the original language, and compare them against the English listings on international retail pages. Where a Korean product carries a functional-cosmetics designation, that classification comes with specific regulatory conditions that have no direct equivalent in the United States, and those conditions often explain why a formula looks the way it does.
When I cite a Korean source, I name the document, the issuing body, and the date I checked it, so the claim can be traced rather than taken on trust.
What I am not
I am not a dermatologist, physician, pharmacist, or licensed skincare professional, and I do not provide medical advice. Nothing published on KpopDirect should be used to diagnose or treat a skin condition.
I state this plainly rather than blurring it, because a great deal of online skincare writing borrows medical authority it has not earned. Where a topic needs clinical grounding, I cite published sources and link to them so readers can check the original instead of taking an editor's word for it. Where the evidence is thin, the article says the evidence is thin.
Editorial responsibility
I am responsible for source selection, factual accuracy, and final review of every article on this site, and for issuing corrections when they are needed. Published guides are revisited as ingredient research, product categories and public health guidance change — and revisiting means rewriting the affected text, not refreshing a date stamp.
The standards I hold myself to are set out in full in the Editorial Policy.
Corrections and contact
If something here is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date, I want to know. Email contact@kpopdirect.com with the article link and the problem. Every correction request is read, and articles are amended where a correction is warranted. Topic suggestions and reader questions go to the same address.
